Subject: Need Basic Info about Canadian Immigration
  Hi All

I am thinking of applying for Canadian Immigration in a skilled worker class. I think my first concern is that I think probably everyone had when they applied for Canadian immigration was if I should go through a lawyer/consultant or do it myself. Any suggestion..???

A little background about me... I am a Pakistani citizen working in the US on H1-B visa, I have a undergrad degree from Pakistan as well as from the US. So basically my questions are....

1) Do I need a lawyer....if yes...any ideas how much do they charge?
2) How long does it the process take from Start to finish if you apply in Buffalo NY.
3) What if your babies are US citizens, how do we go about that?
4) It says on their website that I need $21,xxx when I land in Canada to show that I can supporrt myself and family in Canada, Do we need to show that much money in my account when I apply or do I need bring this money when I land in Canada. I do not have cash in my account but I certainly more than enough equity built in my house in US which I ultimately sell before I land in Canada. How should I go about that?

Your help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

1. Depends - if you are not planning to move around a lots and are comfortable yourself, you can apply directly. I don´t think you will miss much. But being on H1. if you are planning to returning to Pak or change job locations etc., having a lawyer will ensure that you don´t have to take the pain to update CIC of addresses every time and that you do get all the mails. Also they will give you single point to answer your many questions during application process instead of waiting in forums.

2. Around 2 years

3. You can include thema also, since they will get maximum medical benefits in Canada only if they are PR´s.

4. Probably best to show while applying itself, I am not sure what will happen if you don´t show at the time of application.

Best of Luck.

Basic Information about Immigration to Canada (in reply to: Need Basic Info about Canadian Immigration)
Dear Raza
If you have this much education what is your work experience? I think waiting two years minimum is a waste of your time. Go back to the CIC site and look into Provincial Nominee processing times. Average eight months!!! If you can obtain an offer of employment and a certificate under any provinces program the amount of funds to settle are not an issue. The funds required are to support you and your family for six months until you find employment. You can also look at my site www.cvimmigration.com Roy
