Subject: Living Cost in Vancouver
  Hi All,

Can anyone give me a basic cost of living in Vancouver. This is mainly for initial settling stage for a year or two. This is for a family of two and a new born baby.

Living cost in a basic safe and clean area.

1)Rental cost of 2 bedroom apartment. (Alternately renting part of 2 family house).
2)Avg landline phone bill / do you have Vonage or internet phones
3)Cable / Dish bill / internet costs
4)Cost of gas per gallon
5)Avg Food costs
6)Avg Electric bills
7)Health insurance for family ( Are permanent residents eligible for free health insurance or do u have to be a citizen )
8) Miscellaneous if any

Further is it easy to find dept store / regular jobs to look after monthly expenses till you find ur bearings in the city.

Any other valuable experience of a new immigrant will be nice to know

Information will be very helpful

Thanks in advance.

Wow, a lot of questions, some brief answers...

1. Anywhere from $1000-$3000 depending on location/ameniites. There is a nice article on immigrationguides.com about the various areas in Vancouver.

2. Around $30pm with basic features

3. Around $25pm/40/15 basic features

4. Currently around $1/litre

5. Depends on your tastes and consumption. If you´re from the US, roughly the same as now.

6. Usually rolled into rental bill

7. Same rights as citizens

Me and my mate are looking at moving to vancouver from england for a year to work and need to find some good websites that advertise jobs in building trades also websites that advertise to apartments to rent.

One other thing me and my friend are both in are mid twenties and wanna sample the night life so ideally were we rent isnt to far away from it so any suggestions of areas that best suited would also be appriciated.

all information will be very helpful and make life that bit easier when arrive.

west end in terms of rentals/nightlife access.

monster.ca.; workopolis.ca - jobs

craigslist for rentals

you are going to need a work permit but if you are in the construction trades you may just be in luck

It´s quite high or about 50K/year. Of course, it´s possible to get by and live perfectly comfortably while spending much less. That´s the household expenses, so if you´re moving on your own, it would likely be much cheaper.Sunset Inn
