Subject: Marrying
Hello,
I am getting married to a Norwegian and I am a Canadian citizen. What do I need for him to live in Canada with me? We both work at sea at the present moment.

Check the following website:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sponsor/out.html

It will give you all the information you need to sponsor your spouse under the Family Class immigration.

As you are a Canadian citizen you do not have to be in Canada to sponsor your spouse.

Actually, if you are a Canadian citizen you don´t have to reside in Canada in order to be eligible to sponsor.

If I am interpretting the Sponsor Guide Book correctly, so long as a Sponsor can provide evidence that they will be residing in Canada at the time their sponsored spouse, common-law or conjugal partener because a permanent resident of Canada. Evidence they will reside in Canada may include one or more of the following:

-letter from an employer
-letter of acceptance to a Canadian educational institution
-proof of having rented/bought a dwelling in Canada
or
-reasonable plans for re-establishing in Canada or severing ties to the other country

Thank you for your responses. So if I have this figured out correctly, what he needs is called a Permanent resident visa for Canada. Does he still get to keep his Norwegian passport and citizenship? Would you recommend that I should look into getting a lawyer to take care of it?
Thanks again!

There no need to pay a lawyer for that. Read everything carefully, 10 times is better than one. Prepare your application very well. Say the truth, only the truth. This is very important. And to your application add any information you can think of. Even the ones that you think may not be necessary. And try to prove everything you say with a document.

That´s it. Everything will go well. Good luck.
