Subject: Spouse sponsorship with right of appeal
  Hello

I am already living in Canada as a temporary worker and my husband-to-be will be sponsoring me as a spouse but I am concerned about not having the right of appeal if we apply from within Canada. Can we apply from outside Canada even though I am already living here? Someone suggested that one could send the application in Buffalo.

Thank you for your help.

Yes, you can apply outside while you are still living in Canada.

Go to the website below, there are a few ppl there who are living in Canada and their application was processed in their home country.

Applying from home country (in reply to: Spouse sponsorship with right of appeal)
Thank you very much for your reply Katrina. I checked out the site you suggested and it was helpful. Nevertheless, though I am a British national I would be hesitant to apply from the UK because of the long delays there. And since I am living in Canada now I wanted to know if it is possible to apply through the Canadian Embassy in Buffalo rather than the one in the UK. Also I am wondering if I should use an immigration lawyer eventhough I am perfectly capable of doing all the paper work myself. Is there any additional advantage to that?

Thank you

Hi Concerned!
Timelines in Buffalo are almost the same as in London.
But to apply in Buffalo can be easier as you are in Canada.
A good lawyer can save a ton of nerves and he could be the only person to ask questions about your case.
It is not difficult to apply by yourself if you can submitt all documents and fill the forms. But what then? Then you have to wait uncertain (approimate) amount of time for the reply from CIC. If you are ready not to ask questions "Am I all right with my case?" and wait it is just for you to apply by yourself. We have on this forum a bunch of friends who´ve been through this or know about the process a lot. So it is convenient to ask your questions here and recieve appropriate answers.
So once again GOOD layer couldn´t save your money but your time and nerves. You decide:)
good luck!

Thank you Olga (in reply to: Spouse sponsorship with right of appeal)
Thank you for your response Olga. I should have mentioned that my main concern is that I don´t want to leave Canada while applying so going back, and applying from the UK, is not something I want to do. I am thinking that I should speak to an immigration lawyer to start off with to see what they think is best and then decide if I want to do the application myself. As you say, it will save me a lot of nerves.
