Subject: visitor visa
My husband and I are currently in the process of him immigrating to Canada. During this process time is my husband able to visit me in Canada. Before we started the immigration process a lawyer in Tunisia told us that he was not allowed to obtain a visitor visa because we are married and that we had to apply for immirgation. I find him not being able to come visit me in Canada a bit hard to believe.

The lawyer was not correct, but he was probably attempting to save you some heartache and application fees.

He can apply for a visitors visa. It is called dual intent.

That said, it is going to be extremely difficult to obtain. Reason being, is that Canada wants full assurances that your husband will return home to Tunisia at the end of his visit. An immigration officers job is tied to his return. He will need to show employment, perhaps a house... they are very concerned he will arrive in Canada and wait out the immigration process. If there is one ounce of doubt - they will say no. The fact that you are married creates huge doubt. Why would anyone in their right mind want to leave their loved one and go home to wait for immigration to do its work!!!! My fiance was told that he should just be patient and wait for his immigration to complete and then be free to travel. We were declined 3 times before we got lucky the 4th time and that was with CIC having no knowledge of our engagement -he was coming as a friend to see Canada.

Is he coming as a skilled worker or Spousal sponsorship? Fortunately, Paris is one of the faster embassies for processing.

they will likely turn you down and tell you to wait for his PR approval.

Temp. Visa (in reply to: visitor visa)
OK, i am in the same situation right now. I am Canadian and I have applied to sponsor my husband for permanent residence. But he would like to visit me while we are waiting for it to be processed. I have heard that if he applies for a TRV he will most likely be denied. If he applies for the TRV and simply leaves out the information of our marriage, maybe says he would like to travel or visit someone, will he have a better chance, could he get in trouble for it? Also, what sort of "evidence" would be sufficient enough to prove he will return to his home country?? I think it is obsurd for anyone to be expected to spend all this time away from there partner, simply because they are from different countries. Any advise???

Dear Frustrated

Any amount of time even a week in your circumstances is too excessive. Your replying to a post of April of 2006 from a person with similar circumstances.

Your focus should be on your Overseas Application and the quality of that, nothing else.

The best answer depends on where your husband is from and where is his Visa Post. He will require some time for himself to prepare to migrate. He would probably be happy to come with just his tootbrush though.

Certain visa posts can complete a spousal sponsorship application within a couple of months only. So where will he be processed?

Would he require a visitor visa to come to Canada?

Understand something what your wishing for is to wake up under the same roof with him for ever, every morning. Having him arrive at a Port of Entry all thinking of you and then blurting out something stupid just to be denied entry is not worth it.

Focus on his visa post processing time, have someone independent of you check over your application and I sure hope you have a copy.

If he does not need a CVV and he arrives calmly without pets or pots and pans with a logical reason to return there is a chance but it all depends on the individual Visa Post.

I'm so glad to have found this forum (in reply to: visitor visa)

Hello to all members of this forum. I am so happy to have found people to share my experience with. I married a tunisian man last november 10th in tunisia, in mornag, ben arous.
Feb. 1 sent our application to mississauge, received a posiitive response to my sponsorship application on the 25th and since then I´ve been waiting, wondering, worrying, I´m sure you can all relate !
I´ve been looking for timelines from others who have gone through the same process but its so hard to find people with tunisian connections, tonnes for morocco but they process the applications there in rabat and not in paris like for tunisians. I´m assuming its somewhat slower but I´m not sure.....that´s why I´m here :) hoping others will share their stories with me.
My husband and I also applied for a visitors visa because we just couldn´t imagine having to wait so long before we could be in eachothers arms again. However, it was not to be, they are too afraid that he will not return. They said the reasons for staying in canada past the visit are stronger than his reasons to return to his country and lets face it, they´re right !
So now we´re waiting for word that his application is in process in paris.
Does anyone out there have any idea about the time line now?
I hope I´ll get an answer soon.
Any advice at all will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

If you want to see him in the mean time, your best bet is to go there. Unfortunately, too many people have promised to VISIT and never go home - and spoil it for everyone else.

FYI - buying flights to Canada from Tunisia is significantly less expensive than buying them Canada - identical flights. Also, consider installing Skype on your computers. You can talk to each other for free. hook up a webcam and you can spend time together every day. It will really help make those days go by quickly.

While he is waiting... make sure he is working on his english!

Hi :) that´s exactly what my husband and I do every single day. We both have cams and we sit and talk with our microphones every night. Also, there is something similar to msn called oovoo and if you download it you (your husband from tunisia) can call you free of charge. There´s this little phone icon that he clicks, he calls your number and talks to you through his microphone, its really neat, my husband was so excited to discover it.
Sharon, that´s great to hear about tickets being significantly cheaper if you buy them in tunsia, sounds like a plan.
Where is your husband from? Is he here now? how long did it take you guys from start to finish?
