scroll down the page and read under ´other highlights of the federal budget include:....it says`"Reducing the Right of Permanent Residence Fee from $975 to $490, effective immediately "
How will it affect people who just paid RPRF of 975 just last month? Do you think they will get reimbursements??? Any ideas..

"In addition, the Government will provide partial refunds to those who have already paid the $975 fee but have not been granted permanent resident status or have not yet arrived in Canada."

my guess... probably not. fair - probably not.
question is - do you want them to stop processing applications and sort out refunds... or do you want to kiss $490 goodbye and have them keep going.

I think they will either refund the full amount in case of refusal of the application or the 485 CAD in case the immigration visa is issued. So, no action will take place before the decision is made.

To ask for refund or not?
This is an interesting question. Now if they (CIC) wants to use up the additional funds to hire more staff and speed up the process, I´d gladly waive my share.
However, if they are going to go at the same snail pace - well then couple of months more delay is not of concern. I´d rather ask for my refund.

The legislation has not passed yet. If it does not, it seems possible that the fee will remain at $975. Immigration seeems to be jumping the gun and promising refunds now, May 3 2006. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resid-fee/faq.html
