Subject: $975 question
  Hi,

Do Buffalo applicants who are in Canada have to apply for the $485 refund? It says if you paid the fee in Canada you shouldn´t apply because the refund will be mailed to you. I paid the fee in Canada (at the bank) but for the Buffalo Office. Should I apply for a refund or it is not necessary?

Thanks!

Mircea

Even though you paid the fees at a bank in Canada, I assume it´s been paid in the form of a money order payable to the consulate at Buffalo. So, in my opinion, you should have received it with your visa.

According to the cic.gc.ca site, it says that refunds will be mailed to all people who applied in canada or in the U.S.... It gives no indication that they will be giving the money back when you get your visa, and i´ve seen or read nothing from people in forums which indicate they have received their portion back.

Read the release in the cic site. It will answer your questions

thanks,

Have you landed? If you landed after May 3rd, it will be automatically processed and sent to you. If you landed before then, I don´t believe those people get one. Since today is only May 10th and the budget is just getting officially passed, it´s pretty unrealistic to expect it any time soon. Who knows who long it will take?

Hi

I was on a work permit. I came to canada in Aug 2001 and I finished a PhD here. The file has been transfered to Seattle. The application was under SW category. I´m married to a Canadian Citizen. I don´t know if any of these helped. For IA they asked only updated Schedule 1 and 3 and Background declaration.

Yesterday I tried to land at Canada Place. I met all the condition to do the landing without going to the border except for one: at least one year of work before the application date. I thought you need one year of work before the application is accepted. So by not meeting this condition I decided to go to the border. I left at 1.30 from edmonton, I arrived at 6.00 in Carway. I finished at 6.30 and drove back to edmonton. I arrived back home at 11.45. i´m very tired but I have to work now.

Hey Mircea, what are the conditions for landing at Canada Place instead of going to the border? The one year work experience you mentioned must be canadian experience?

I would say just forget about the bucks. It is more imporative to find employment and solve settlement probs. What is 500$??? Not even a month´s rent!

the conditions are in the letter I got with the visa:

SW, work permit, one year of canadian experience prior to application date and arranged employment.
