Subject: Spouse sponsorship-IMPORTANT
  Dear all,

I would kindly ask for an information please regarding the spouse sponsorship from abroad.

My situation:
Soon, I will have permanent residetship. I am planing to sponsor my wife from abroad (SouthEast Europe). I will have a Canadian MSc degree in engineering and a job.

My wife:
She is a medical nurse, has 1 year working experience, she does not speak English.

My concerns:

1) Is there any difference when sponsoring a spouse as a permanent resident or canadian citizen in terms of the length of the entire process?

2) What is the time frame for a spouse sponsorship? The best and worst possible scenario?

3) Is it faster, better and safer if I sponsor her via Quebec?

4) For example, if my wife visits me as a tourist (she will hold a toursit visa) can I submit my application for sponsorship from Canada and she does not have to leave the country while in the process of obtaining permanent residentahip?
That is what I undesrtand from the http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sponsor/faq-spouse.html#Q10

Thanks

Re: (in reply to: Spouse sponsorship-IMPORTANT)
Here is the answers to your questions:
1- When you make sponsor application to your wife. she will be granted Permanent Resident after landing. She will be granted Citizenship after 3 years presence out of 5 Years.
2- Time frame depend on your visa processing center which will vary from 6-8 Months from date of submittal of your application, taking into your info that she must attend medical check.
3- If you are in Quebec their will be no difference in time frame. In quebec Sponsor Visa goes to Federal Process.
4- If your wife is in Canada holding Visitor Visa, you will not be able to change status to sponsor her to become permanent resident, unless you have a lawyer, or she can leave the country till she granted PR Visa, taking into consideration that if you are in wellfare or unemployed, you will not be able to sponsor her. At the time of submitting the application you must be Employed.

If any person is in legal status in Canada they can be sponsored as a spouse or common law/conjucal partner without counsel.

You can get married now and inform the visa post and you will get more points for her education etc. She will of course have to supply proof of no convictions and medical evidence to show that she is admissable.

If you marry her after you become a PR then sponsor her you will incur costs of flights back and forth.

If you get your approval and marry her before you arrive in Canada as a PR and do not inform CIC you will be in BIG trouble for misrepresentation.

IF YOU LOVE HER MARRY HER NOW AND INCLUDE HER IN YOUR APPLICATION. THEN COME AS A MARRIED COUPLE AND LIVE HAPPILY.

Spoonsorship (in reply to: Spouse sponsorship-IMPORTANT)
Dear all,

Thank you for the advices.

If I understood correctly, there is NO DIFFERENCE whether I sponsor her to come into Canada as a permanent resident or canadian citizen. I will be treated equally (as a permanent resident) as canadian citizens.

I have few more concerns:

1) I applied via Quebec for obtaining permanent residentship (PR). If I move out from Quebec and start living, working in an other province after I get PR
will I encounter any problems If I sponsor her?

Thanks

RE: (in reply to: Spouse sponsorship-IMPORTANT)
When you landed in quebec and after you get:
1- PR Crad.
2- SIN "Social Insurance Number"
3- Health Card "Card Soliel"
You can switch to any other province and sponsor your wife from there. That is all.

I am a Canadian Citizen presently living outside of Canada. I got married recently and now have a child. The child is already a Canadian citizen and have a Canadian passport. Now I am sponsoring my wife to become a landed immigrant in Canada. My question is if I don´t get a job when I return to Canada after my wife gets the PR, will I be eligible for any assistance from the govt until I find employment.
