Any idea whether file numbers are assigned serially in Buffalo? The reason I ask is that at the following URL
http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/can-am/menu-en.asp?act=v&did=1896&mid=1&cat=1
applicant with file number B046353543 (last one in the list) has been scheduled for an interview ...amongst others. Does that mean most file numbers B045... have been assessed? Mine is a 0453 ...applied in Feb 2004 in Buffalo. Am curious to find out whether IA has been done on my file? I haven´t heard anything from Buffalo yet.

Hi zues,
I am in the same boat as u are. I applied in the end of Jan 2004 and according to CIC Buffalo, file started processing on Jan 31,2004. I already received my file in Feb 2nd week. Sent my IELTS scores in July and waiting for the medicals. My file number starts B04532 and I havent heard anything yet. Let me know if u hear anything Zeus.

No, File no are not processed in sequence. The numbers are generated in sequence, but are assigned to different officers. Now, how long each takes may depend. However; theoratically they should be going in together.

It makes sense that file numbers are created sequentially. I understand that some files may have a decision made on them before others depending on the supporting documents.
