Subject: Birth and Police Certificate!
  Hi all,

I had my birth certificate notarized by the notary public of my home country. And also I had a Police Certificate, which is called non-crimial history certificate in my home country, issued by notary public of my home country as well. Since then, I went to US and only returned to my home country once until now for less than one month. Since both certificates are issued in 1999. Is it necessary that I have to re-do these two certificates again.

For birth certificate, I do not see any time limitation. No matter when I have it notarized, birth certificate will still be the same. For the police certificate, even I redo it, the police certificate still only can prove my record until the day in 1999 when I left. What do you guys think.

By the way, the non-crime record issued by municipal notary public will be accepted by CIC as the substitute for police certificate. Since that is how it is done in my home country.

Thank you so much for your continuous help.

Kevin

I would assume your certificate would work, but I am not certain that you won´t need to get a more recent one. BUT if you have only been there since 1999 for a month or so then you probably won´t need a more recent one. What I would do is call CIC, they will be able to tell you for sure. Additionally, it is very important to note in your application that you have not lived in your home country since the police certificate was issued.

Good Luck

You can use your birth certificate, no problem. BUT you will have to get new Police clearance certificates as in general the certificates are valid for 6 months.

If the Police clearance certificate or the non-crime record is issued by municipal notary public in your home country then they should be accepted by CIC as the substitute for police certificate. But if the police does issue the clearance certificates then it will be better if you get it from them.
