Hello all,
THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS ARE PERTAINING TO VISA PROCEDURES FOR INDIANS SO OTHERS PLEASE BE FOREWARNED AND STOP READING FURTHER AND DONT ACCUSE ME OF NOT WARNING.
I would appreciate if somebody clarified the following queries regarding obtaining an vistor visa of Canada from India.
First some background info - I am an Indian citizen residing in India(Hyderabad). I recently got married to a Canadian citizen. Since the parents of my spouse left after the marriage ceremony(back to Canada), my spouse remained with me and now has to travel back to Canada all by herself. I wish to accompany her there, now questions follow;
(1) Where do I have to appear for getting my visitor visa (in Chennai or New Delhi)?
(2)Since I plan to stay there (indefnitely), can I for example apply for a change of status(from a visitor to a perminent resident) while residing inside Canada?
(3)What kind of supporting documents do I need - since atleast initially I intend to stay with my spouses parents there, do they need to give me things like their sponsership letter, job certificates, tax returns & bank details?
(4)How long does all this procedure take(from applying for visa till I receive my passport) - typical Indian time?
(5)And do I need a medical certificate? And how long will the issuance take?

1)do not know the answer to this one
2)IF you get a visitors visa, your wife can apply to sponsor you from within Canada. I would not advise this. In Canada applications are taking much longer than out of Canada. You cannot work and you cannot appeal if CIC rejects your application
3) your inlaws cannot sponsor you. only your wife.
4) out of Canada applications take 4-9 months. In Canada can take up to 2 years
5) yes, you need to do a medical but it must be done by a CIC certified doctor.
If you say you are going to live with your wife - CIC will not give you a visitors visa. they want you to prove you will go home at the end of your visit.
your best solution is to kiss your wife, allow her to return to Canada alone and have her sponsor you from Canada.

Don´t expect the Canadian consulate to give you a visitor visa. Telling them your married to a Canadian will almost certainly hamper your visitor visa application as its almost impossible for you to prove that you will leave Canada.

More likely your visitor visa will be refused.
As far as I know you have to apply from New Delhi but I am not sure abour this one.
It would be easier as Sharon said and safer to apply for permanent residence from outside of Canada.
BE aware that if you apply from outside of Canada as a permanent resident and your application is refused you may appeal this decision.
IF you apply from inCanada and you application is denied you CAN NOT appeal the decision and you may face a removal from Canada.
Apply as a family member while you still in India. Your wife can sponsor you even if she is in Canada.

My wife did leave without me. She had to join her job. Lets see what can be done from now on.

I need assistance to travel to canada from chennai, india in visit visa basis.Iam +2 passed and doing my BBA in Madras University , Chennai,T.N.I wish to go to canada in visit visa to taker a survey regarding whether i can obtain any employment visa ( even a general labour job ) . I am Iraqi national doing Ph.D. in Chennai, India. I(me and my wife) want to visit my relative in Montreal. Kindly tell me how do I convince the embassy that I will return back. What documents do I need for this application ?
