Subject: Sponsoring parent already in canada
  hi,
my mother came to visit me in January 2006 but now she would like to stay because of the political situation back home.
Can i sponsor her without her going back?
i heard you have to apply from the country you are a citizen or any country where you have lived at least 1 year legally. So is there anyone i can apply NOW or do i apply for a visa for her?
please help

your mother must be out of the country for you to sponsor her. once the application is filed, you can request another visitors visa for her. The visitors visa is not always easy to get because CIC is sure she will not go home.

I do not believe there is a humanitarian clause in parental sponsorship, but she may wish to investigate whether she could qualify as a refugee.

Your mother must apply from her home country - of course CIC is going to see that she had no intention of returning to her home country, they will not issue a new visa under those circumstances, she will have to return. Your plan failed I´m afraid!!
