Subject: Regarding PR CArd !!
Hi All,

I understand that at the port of entry, I am supposed to give an address in Vancouver, Canada (My port of entry). I hardly know anyone in Canada. How can I provide an address to the officer at the port of entry, where they can send my PR card. Please help

Thanks !!

If you don´t have anyone in Canada, you might want to consider mail forwarding option. I am not sure if this is acceptable by Canadian Immigration. You can rent a mail box
with a P.O.box address with the mail forwarding option from a private mail box services. Then, your mail box service receive your mail (mailed to the P.O.box address),
and then forward it to your address. I have done this in
U.S. However, I am not sure if P.o.box address is acceptable.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Thnaks for the response. I sincerely appreciate that.

Has anyone done the same before? Is there a way where I can give them my US address? Or is there a way where I can go and collect my PR card (i know it sounds stupid) ?

Please help !!

I have read somewhere in the CIC website that you are not required to provide right away (at the port of entry) your address in Canada. You are given I think one month to advise them your address. So, once you are settled or have found a place to rent after your arrival, you need to advise CIC your address.

I will try to check again the website and will post the link here.

I found it! Here´s the excerpt from the website:
-------------------------------------------

New Immigrants
Newly arriving permanent residents automatically receive a PR card as part of the immigration process.

If you are a new permanent resident who did not provide a mailing address to CIC at the point of entry, please do so as soon as possible.

You may provide this information on-line, or you may contact the PR Card Call Centre. Please note that if we do not receive your address within 180 days of your entry into Canada, you will need to re-apply for your PR card and pay the applicable fee.

If you do not receive your PR card within 30 days of submitting your address, please contact the PR Card Call Centre.
---------------------------------------------------

Better yet, visit this website:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pr-card/prc-process.html#new

To notify CIC online, go to this website:
http://services3.cic.gc.ca/coa/onlineservices_notification.do?language=english

To contact PR Card call center, check the complete information on this website:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/call.html#prcard

I hope these help. Good luck!
