Subject: Self Employed farmer
I have been looking on the cic sites but have not been able to find out what the minimum acreage one must farm to be eligible for the self employed entry.

Is there a minimum $$ you must net per year or is it just that you must be able to support yourself.

I am a US citizen by birth, am 60, no criminal history, no medical issues.

There are three parcels in eastern BC tha I am interested in.

A second question...There is a house in Creston that I have thought of making an offer on can I buy it and move there?

Foreign nationals are allowed to own propery in Canada. But they must follow the visitation laws and cannot overstay (3 or 6 months I believe for U.S. citizens). Without permanent residency, you are always a temporary visitor, without social benefits. Non-permanent residents buy property in Canada mainly as vacation homes, not as primary residences.

I would consult an immigration specialist (registered consultant or lawyer) your question is very specific and not one we have come through our forum very often. I don´t think any answer we offer could be reliable.

Hi Jim,
Did you look into Saskatchewan´s land situation, everybody from Alberta is buying land there, actually some people have bought up to 7 times more land there with what the got from the sale of their land in Alberta. Great cattle country(Sk), sounds like it anyway. Regards.
