Subject: "Landed Immigrant Status"
My father immigrated to Canada in the 1950´s(I think) from the UK, and has been living in the States w/ his Greencard since soon after that. He will be 80 this year and I am helping him get his paperwork in order. He is currently renewing his GreenCard, but what I am wondering is Does he still hold Landed Immigrant Status after all this time? He cannot find his paperwork. What do I need to do to get him up to date? Can he still move back to Canada?

No He cannot (in reply to: "Landed Immigrant Status")
No, your grandfather lost his landed status. Before 2002 you were required to notify CIC if you were going to be out the country for more than 6 months and needed a RRP (Return Resident Permit) to return back to Canada. If you failed to notify them and were out longer than 6 months then you lost your immigration status.

Also, if you become a permanent resident of Canada and before getting your citizenship you acquire residence of another country (such as US) then Canada considers you as someone who wants to abondon their Canadian Residence.
