Subject: Processing time through consultants/lawyers
  Hi,

I would like someone to tell me whether there is any difference in processing time between doing application by oneself or through consultants/lawyers. I am doing mine through consultants. The application was sent in january of this year around end week of january, received aor in feb 2nd week, sent ielts in july 1st week but am still waiting for response for medicals. How long do u think i should wait to hear from buffalo.

Thanks

consultant/non consultant (in reply to: Processing time through consultants/lawyers)
CIC insists that there is no time advantage to using a consultant or lawyer. Everyone goes into the same line. The only advantage to a consultant would be if your english or french skills make the questions hard to answer, or you have a particularly complicated file. At that point the consultant might save you some time because they would not submit the application unless they were satisfied that it was complete.

Thank you Sharon. When do you think or estimate I should get a response from CIC buffalo ? Please advice.

Best wishes

Hi Sharon,

I have been in the US for 7 years plus working as an accountant for 3 years, will complete 4 in end of Dec 2004. Even though i submitted my competency in english , i did the IELT test for formality sake. Are accounting jobs in plenty in canada, if so which province would you suggest. I am not a cpa at the momemt but have a US degree in Accounting. Please advice.

Best wishes

I know a few things... but not most things. I am totally unfamiliar with wait times outside of my fiance´s embassy. I cannot even remotely answer your question. Hopefully someone else can help you out.

as for employment... check out www.workopolis.com and take a brouse through the site. Again, your question is outside my areas of specific knowledge. My only suggestion is to be flexible.

RS:

I was inclined to believe CIC when they say lawyers/consultants do not speed up the process. Actually I made my decisions based on that belief after talking to CIC officers in person.

However, the real fact has proved me wrong. I personally know two cases of spouse sponsorship that have been processed: one with the aid of a lawyer and the other with the aid of a consultant. Both cases lasted less than 6 months in the same consulate that is processing my case (Buffalo). In contrast, my case is already 8 months old and I´m starting I have not heard a word from Buffalo. I wish I had spent a few more dollars to hire a lawyer/consultant, but for me there is no point in doing that at this stage.

The only difference between me and the other sponsored spouses I mentioned above are:
I have significantly more years of education. The other spouses just finished high school.
I have lived in two countries other than my native country for more than 6 months.
I´m not a permanent resident of the country in which I actually reside, but I´m a legally admitted foreigner.
My sponsor and I have a child.

So, I don´t know if I would attribute the longer processing of my case to my decision to disregard the help of a lawyer/consultant or to the differences between me and the other spouses.

waiting time (in reply to: Processing time through consultants/lawyers)
I really do not know what goes on at the CIC offices. why certain files take longer. We see it in the skilled worker category too. Why do they say 30% are complete, 50% complete etc. I guess the more details to sort out, the longer it takes? Wish I knew because our application is moving on the slow track too. I don´t know what to tell you.

As mentioned before - going to Lawyers will ensure you have proper application go + they will only take case if they are sure you stand a chance.

So I´d say if you are still not sure - go through a prelim check with any of the lawyers - they don´t charge you for that.

If they come back saying they are comfortable taking your case - it is upto you to go through them or choose to go on your own. I´d say it cost 1500-2000 additional dough but it is peace of mind. But hey, there are plenty on this forum alone who are going on their own.
