Subject: PR Card timeline after landing
  Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea, how long does it take now to get PR/SIN card after landing and registering. I am told it takes more than 4-6 weeks. Is it true? (or it varies based on location)

Can i take up an employment stating that i have applied for the PR card ( I am not sure if the potential employer would require the number or the copy of the PR card?)

Thanks in advance for your valuable advice.

Regards
Crisraj

I got PR yesterday and he said they say 3-4 weeks but right now it´s more like 5-5. I don´t think it depends on location, don´t they all get processed at the same place?

You don´t need the PR card to take up employment but you do need to apply for a SIN. You will need proof of this as an employer will check. Your Confirmation of PR should do for the PR itself.

I do not think that there will be any problems with potential employer, as far as you have the copy of you landing papers you were given at the border. before you´ll get your PR card (4-6 weeks now) you can use it as the confirmation of you PR status, use the same paper to get your medicare and new SIN. (it will take more than a month also).

I landed in March at Vancouver Airport. PR card took 32 days and Sin took 58 days.
