Can anyone fill me in on what CIC actually wants when the say "certified translations" of documents that are not in English or French? What I mean to say, what is acceptable? Pretty much all of my docs are in English but there are a few in Spanish (my partners birth certificate, for example). Since I am fluent in English and Spanish I translated the document, gave it to another bilingual friend and had her sign, in front of a notary, an affidavit of translation stating that she verified the translation and it was accurate. Will this do? I have read several different things and would like to hear about your experiences..thanks.

(in reply to: Certified Translations) Get your friend to translate the notes. Both of you go to the public notary who will get your signatures and she will seal the documents... I think you are in good shape.
Good luck!

(in reply to: Certified Translations) Do you know if your method of certifying the translation worked?
Most documents just say "certified translation" however on one web page (http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/bangkok/citizenship-en.asp) I found through Google it says: "certified translation (ie from a translation bureau - the Embassy can provide a list of bureaux)"
