If you get an RCMP check and its close to expire you can then on the same day get a Name Search ($35.00 approx) which can be done at most station houses. This will show no outstanding charges or convictions which will basically update your fingerprint results.
In major cities you probably have to attend headquarters. Then submit the Name Search if your fingerprint results are close to expire and they will probably overlook the expiration date. Some fingerprint organizations like IFS Ontario are getting or have gotten a finger scan process that is much faster and the wait time is approximately two weeks or less.
Since you appear to be in Canada I suggest the above.
