Hello all I´m filing our application next friday under conjugal partner my fiancee lives in USA and I´m in Canada .What I am wondering is after we apply we are thinking of having her come up here in July to spend the summer and help me plan our wedding in Sept .When we get to the border in Buffalo if we let them know she is coming up for a 6 month visit and help plan wedding and hopefully PR will be in before that .All she will be bringing with her is her 2 cats which she will have all vaccinated and I am planning on supporting her while up here do you see anything that may prevent this or anything we are doing wrong which may harm her application for PR.

Hi Chris.

According to the details you have given, it is possible that the port of entry visa officer will not, immediately, allow her in to the country as a visitor, as she does not meet the criteria for "visitor". Specifically, visitors intend to leave the country.

When a traveler shows up at the border with her cats and life´s possessions, it´s a pretty clear indication that the person does not intend to leave. That said, it is also likely that, after giving her a lecture, the officer will allow her to enter by placing her on a visitor record (an official document that specifies the restrictions placed on visitors to Canada). But, nothing is guaranteed...

Sincerely,

Dennis Caul

Visitor Visa (in reply to: visitor visa)
Hi.

I actually am in the same situation as Chris. I am a US citizen and I did exactly what Chris described at the border to come stay with my fiancee for six months.

The border patrol gave me a lecture and registered me as a visitor. She typed forever on the computer and then actually stapled a very official document into my passport indicating I would be leaving in a month and that I could not work or take class here in Canada.

I have no intention of working until I have my forms but I was hoping to stay with my fiancee for 6 months or so before we either get married or apply for any permanent residence.

I do plan on returning for a weekend every month to see my family.

What should I do? Extend my visitor permit or apply for a fiancee visa (if there is such a thing).

Your help would be greatly appreciated.
