Subject: I have been reading past postings and I see s...
I have been reading past postings and I see so many complaints about the length of time it takes for Buffalo to process applications. Does anyone have anything good to say about Buffalo´s timings? I have 14 months left of my permit but as yet have no IA.
Timeline:
Mailed application - May 8th 2006
File number received - May 23rd

Nothing since......

Juliet,

"File number received" is what is referred to as AOR (acknowledgement of receipt). Your background check will now begin. Typically, it takes a year or more before that is completed. Then you´ll receive an IA (initial assessment), which is a letter telling you if your application was successful or not and to do your medical exams (if so).

Buffalo may have sped things up somewhat, but I think that´s the rough estimate based on other´s experiences. This board has confirmed many a time that from application submission to receiving your visa is an approximate 2 year process in total.

Hi, you probably meant May 8th 2005 not 2006. The IA normally takes at least fourteen months, at least from the USA. And your file is very often transferred to another facility just prior to your receiving the initial assessment. Good luck. Patience is a virtue and a necessity if you don´t want to go bonkers. (see timelines in past forum entries)

Thanks Bob and Richard, yes I have been going a little insane. Now I know what AOR means. Yes, I applied May 2005 - its been 14 months now - so does that mean I should be hearing soon? Really, I dont care how long it takes so long as I have my PR status by Dec 2007. I have a permanent job in Canada but am concerned as to my permit expiring before I receive the PR.
Will stop griping and be patient!!

oflate buffalo has been trying to share the workload with other offices in the US. Thats why they get transferred. I think you should be getting your IA soon. mine took the same time, around 14 months to get IA. and you should most defineltly get your PR status by dec 2007.

Thanks anony. Appreciate the encouragement.
PS should I get my fingerprints done and send for my RCMP Police check now or wait?

Recommend wait as they expire after 1 year. I think your timeline is still a bit early in the process. Otherwise you might have to do them again.

You are probably looking at a Visa in hand around 2007-2008 if all goes well with your medicals, background check and no further documents and interview are required.
