| Subject: Immigration Formalities on Buffalo-Canada Border |

I was issued immigrant visa and it expires on 8/16. I intend to drive to Canada from Buffalo, NY. Can all the immigration formalities be done by just crossing over the border from USA to Canada?
Do I have to fly in to Toronto to complete the formalities? It will be much easier for me if I can drive thru the border. If this is acceptable , can I do this on a Saturday (weekend )?
Would highly appreciate if you can respond at your earliest convenience.

All "Landing" formalities can be completed at the border. For things like SSN, Medical Card, Driv. Lic., Bank account you need to drive to the nearest town where these are issued.

At landing, I know it´s ok to give a freind´s address for PR Card as mailing address. But in order to get Driv. Lic., Medical Card, Bank Account, SIN, can friend´s address suffice or do you have to actually establish a permanent residence and give that address for those?

Yes. A friends/ relatives address is OK for all documentation purposes. At least a couple of people I know who landed (and then left after 7-21 days) in Ottawa have done the same.

Is it ok to enter Canada to complete the landing formality and leave canada the same day? I understand I will have to provide my friend´s address where the PR card can be mailed to.

Yes Java Man you can do that, a lot of people need to do that in order to go home and tie up loose ends. That is my plan exactly.

my wife is canadian residance and now having the perment residance visa for USA. if she travel to USA by next month via Buffalo- Canada Border,Can all the immigration formalities be done by just crossing over the border from canada to usa? same day then she fly buffalo air port to chicago. Is it fine for her please let me know.
