Subject: Buffalo forgot about me :(
  Dear all,

I browsed this website and I found some very informative answers. It looks like there are many people willing to help with good advice.
I would greatly appreciate if someone could help out me here:

I came to Canada as a student in 1999. I completed an undergraduate and a graduate degree and I started work (graduate work permit) in December 2005. I also worked as a co-op student for 1.5 years during my time as an undergrad/grad student. On top of that, I have almost 2 years of work as a teaching assistant/research assistant.

I submitted my permanent resident application (skilled worker class) in June 2004. I got my AOR in July 2004 and this is the last time I ever heard from Buffalo. I requested my Caips notes in September 2005 and I found out that they did not recognize any of my co-op work experience or my teaching assistant work experience. Although that meant I could not meet the necessary criteria (minimum 1 year work exp) they have not rejected my file. The Caips file indicates ? ?no decision made? and the e-client indicates that my application is ?in progress?.
In the meanwhile, I sent several updates ? the job offer letter from my current employer as well as the proof that I had completed my graduate degree.
Still nothing, no acknowledgment or sign from Buffalo.
My graduate work permit will expiry in December this year. I have no idea what they are waiting for: are they waiting for me to actually complete a year of work so they can ?defrost? my file? Did they completely forget about me? Have I pissed them off by sending too many updates (about 3 updates + 1 letter asking them if they can tell me when they plan to reach a decision)
I feel they are completely ignoring me. The problem is that my graduate work permit expires in December and it doesn?t seem like Buffalo shows any sign they are going to do anything about my file.
Any ideas? Advice? Suggestions? Similar experiences?

Anything will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon

I have almost same case. They are doing the same thing with me. I came to Canada in 1999 and finished my undergrad and grad in 2005 with 1 year COOP experience. I applied in March 2004 and got AOR in Apr 2004. They didn´t give me points for my work experience. Currently I´m working full time. I send them copy of my work permit and job letter but no response from them so far. According to CAIPS notes, they will reopen my file in September 2006. So, still waiting.....

How about get a new work permit after your grad permit expirs? Unlike the US, where you can´t hold a work visa longer than 6 years without leaving the country for a year or longer, in Canada you can keep workin with a work permit forever. It looks to me like you would be better off re-applying. It is quit puzzling it takes that long for IA. You can also try hook up with a rasonable wench and might as well settle in Canada for real. Spousal things go faster than SW. Sometimes I wonder what they mean by "skilled" worker. Most of these guys learn driving after they arrive, so where was the skill needed for cab driving? It was actually not present at the time of arrival!
Once again, your best, most serious bet is marrying into Canada. I am sure there are a lot of fat old wenches out there.

Wow...this is sorta scary. I have 20months coop experience and I applied May 2005 - still waiting for IA. Meanwhile, I graduated May ´06 and have been unable to find a job in my field of study - I send out almost 10-20 apps each day. I´m hoping I hear from Buffalo by the end of July

if the co op experience wasn´t at least 1yr continuous, then it won´t count. another reason why it might not count is that it occurred BEFORE you obtained the bachelor´s degree. the only type of academic work experience that counts is grad school research/teaching work since you already obtained the degree AND its likely continuous for at least a year.

I ordered CAIPS, and according to them I have been given 53 points. No points for one year work experience or 5 points for adoptability. I worked continuously for 1 year on my COOP work term. According to my CAIPS they opened my file in NOV 2004, gave me 53 points and closed it. It was suppose to be reopened in Feb 2005, June 2005, Dec 2005 and now Sep 2006. According to CAIPS, Buffalo has received my new work permit and job letter. I have 0 for all of my categories. File B´fd to MKD File to reopen : Sep 10, 2006 is my current status.

I know at least two people who got points for their COOP experience, and they are immigrant. Irony is that I told them CIC give points for COOP work experience. :))

Anonymous: Don´t count on Buffalo for any thing. Go to Alberta to get a job. Or else you will loose your status after three months...
