Subject: Which comes first - work or permit? |

Hi - I?m new to the site. I have a simple question. Which comes first, the work permit or the job? I have read conflicting information where on the one hand, it seems you need a work permit to get a job, and on the other, you need a promise of work to get the permit. Which is it?
Thanks for any help -

I think I understand your question (in reply to: Which comes first - work or permit?) I think you are talking about a temporary work visa. That is different than permanent immigration. Temporary work visa is for a set term and tied to the job. If you were to quit or lose your job...you would be required to leave the country. Temporary work visa begins with a job offer that must be approved by HRDC. Both employer and employee must fill out forms before a Visa can be issued.
If I am misunderstanding and you are talking about a permanent application for skilled worker...you get the permanent residence visa first and then you are free to work anywhere you like.
If you are applying for PR from within Canada, I think there might be some sort of provision for a work permit... but I am not sure about this aspect.
