Subject: working as a doctor in canada
  Hi,

I am a Polish doctor specialised in Ophthalmology. I am planning to move to Canada with my husband who will work in Montreal with a multinational company. Will I be able to practice my profession in Canada or must I complete my medical studies again i.e. pass the Evaluation Exam of the Medical Council of Canada (MCCEE)and then redo the specialisation training as a resident doctor?

Best Regards,

Ewa

Practicing medicine in Canada (in reply to: working as a doctor in canada)
Hi Ewa.

You will have to undertake testing and residency. Unfortunately, residency positions are in short supply, and in great demand. Consequently, it may be many years (if ever) before you can practice medicine in Canada.

Would you be interested in having a professional advisor review your entire application prior to submitting it? It costs very little, and can help you avoid months (years???) of delays in processing. For more information, please visit http://www.e-ca.ca/eaudit.htm and http://www.e-ca.ca/efees.htm

Sincerely,

I´m a doctor (MBBS) (hospital non specialized) from Sri Lanka. I have a 3 years experience including internship and nearly 1-1/2 years experience in a psychiatry unit as a medical officer. I want to work in a psychiatry unit in Canada and I want to do postgraduate in psychiatry to become a consultant psychiatrist. I got through IELTS examination with a total band score 7. Am I eligible to apply to migrate to Canada? What other things should I fulfil to work as a doctor in Canada?

Sometimes, forever. It´s not your skills but the lack of residency opportunity. That´s why most foreign dcotors who migrated to Canada later left for the States. If you want to explore opportunities in Canada, opt for rural over urban, more opportunities there.
