Subject: In Canada what happens when PR granted?
  Hi

I am currently residing in Canada on a Temp. visa ...all legit.

I have undertaken my medicals and have been advised that I should hear from the Canadian Consulate in Australia in 8 weeks.

What I am wondering is do I need to leave Canada and then return to commence my status as a Perm. Resident in Canada. Everything I read suggests you will be questioned by an immigration offical at the boarder, I am not sure how they cover off everything if you are already living here.

Thanks
K8

You will have to go to the border in order to become a PR in Canada. We had to do it too. The questions were very easy: what do we do, what´s our address, how much money we have and if those are our pictures. I cannot remember any other question.

Does that mean you have to be able to cross into the States? I have had issues at the USA boarder before and would prefer to avoid that boarder crossing to simply turn around and come back.

What happens if you live in Yukon, would they expect you to travel to the USA?

Thanks

I think they still expect you to get out of Canada somehow. I drove to US border, and since we did not have a visa, we got a paper to sign saying that we voluntarily retract our application to enter the US because we do not actually want to enter the US. I am not joking! This is what it said!
And then you are free to go to the canadian side and finish PR.
