Subject: Bankruptcy
  Hi everyone!
Advice please! My wife and I are in the early stages of applying for residency in beautiful BC. My wife is a specialist nurse and already is receiving very positive feedback from BC hospitals re: job applications. I´m a sales engineer so I´ll be applying for many, many jobs I suspect!
Sadly last year my business here in the UK went under, leaving us bankrupt.... How badly is this likely to affect our chances of moving to Canada? We scored 69 in the test but the test didn´t mention bankruptcy! Funds are not a problem, we have savings of around 25k CND.
Thanks for any advice!

just one question....under which category did you apply? As a business person? or did you go under the Skilled worker category? Hope that you tried under skilled worker. Cuz, if you did, nobody is going to ask you about your business, in my humble opinion, i think that since you have the funds to show (25,000) and you and your wife have skills that will benefit Canada´s economy, you guys should be alright. If they don´t ask you about your business, just don´t say anything. Plus, the form doesn´t say any thing about bankruptcy as you said, so just chill out, relax.

Hi Shane,
Thanks for putting my mind at ease!
Yes, we have applied as skill workers, not business persons.
Phew!

have a look if your wife can come under the Provincial Nominee program - it might be faster. even a work permit is another route to consider. It gets you into the county a little quicker.

Every province in Canada is entitled to nominate immigrants who it thinks will/can improve the provincial economy. That´s provincial nomination. Under this, the prov govt will take care of all the formalities, I mean, you don´t even have to have the federal 67 points to become eligible, the only condition is that the province has to nominate you, and the federal govt will just do the medical and security formalities. The advantage: Faster processing time.
For example: Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)

What are the downsides of Provincial catagory application and being an immigrant? Any thoughts?

Thanks Sidharth,
Wow, that sounds great. So if my wife´s nursing credentials are in demand, there´s a good chance she´ll be nominated? And the bankruptcy issue becomes totally moot? That´s brilliant info guys - thanks for the help.

Nurses can get graduated license which allows them to work in Canada. Then they have to write the Federal exam which is written three times a year. Once your wife gets an offer of full time employment she can approach the province for a PNP certificate which will give her additional points and processing of approximately 8 months.

Each province has their own procedures and most GL costs about $200.00 Canadian but certain provinces are free to get the GL License.

Certain PNP programs want you to be assessed by their own accreditation process like Health BC. Most PNP sites have information regarding nurses.

Some are very good on Business applications as well.
