Subject: Family Class Sponsorship - Income requirement
  hello friends,

My wife and I are thinking of sponsoring my in-laws. My wife has been here in canada for 10 months+ and is currently a student. Will it be possible for us to sponsor 3 members of the family? Somewhere i read that the min. required income must be $32K for 3 persons. I have a yearly income of over $40K. The question is, will we be able to sponsor them on my income as a co - sponsoror? please advice and share your experiances. Thank you very much

Sorry to inform you, but you read incorrect information.

For you and your wife your Basic Need amount is $26,036. If you are sponsoring three adults you will need an additional $27,264, therefore your total annual income must be $53,330 to sponsor 3 person over the age of 18. If you are sponsoring two adults and a child you would need additional income of $23,176 or a total income of CA$49,212.
You can get the calculation tables on the website below:

Sorry, the information mentioned about is for QC. Further down on the same website are the LICO which list the income requirement as CA$42,862 for 5 persons.

Real Sorry to tell you this!

What you should be looking at is this web site. www.sponsoryourparents.ca or go to cic.gc.ca home page right side and click on processing times inside and outside Canada for Parents. If your from China they might be here in 12 years hopefully your parental sponsorship will be quicker.

If you can get them here on a CVV depending on their country try a H&C application based on IP5 section 6.7 as per the sections mentioned on the sponsor your parents website all the while understanding IP5 section 5.26.

katrin, thanks for the input. I am still not yet clear as to what the total income should be. Are the figures mainly for the sponsered person or the sponsoror?

thanks again for all your help. My inlaws are well settled where they are - it just that it would make it little easy for them to come visit us.

thank you all for the input.

The total income require is for the sponsor...they will not take the sponsored person income into account. The first stage assessement is to determine that you meet the requirement to sponsor and that includes having sufficient income to cover the living cost for yourself and your newly arriving family members.

Income Requirement (in reply to: Family Class Sponsorship - Income requirement)
Hi ! I am not sure that this is the appropriate place for my question. Forgive me if I am breaking the rules. I am a Canadian non-resident (lived outside of Canada much of my adult life) and hope to return to Canada next year, to retire, along with my common law partner. We have retained the services of a law firm to help with the procedure. I have adequate savings in Canada to support the 2 of us. I have not paid income tax in Canada for many years as I am a non-resident but have paid taxes in Brazil, my home base. My lawyer has taken issue with my tax situation and I am not sure what I should do. Proof of Canadian savings doesn´t seem to matter. Any suggestions are welcomed.
