Subject: Canada Or New Zealand
Ive been given a very good opportunity to either live in Vancouver or Auckland, New zealand. Can anyone who may have lived in both tell me which one is there first choice and why. I hear mortgage rates in NZ are higher, but the cost of living is cheaper?
any help will be appretiated.

Hi im an aussie living sydney but went to NZ for a a few weeks holiday in december 05. the interest rates in NZ are high...about 7.25% i think (i know its over 7%) as the cash rate! so i guess mortgages at the bank will be more like 9%.
food in NZ was the same price or more expensive than in sydney. NZ is a beautiful place, but has a small town feel to the place...i eman auckland feels a bit city like but its really spread out for a city of like 1-1.5 million people. I would imgaine the career opportunities in canada would be better in NZ, but it depends what u do...but if u get PR or citizenship in NZ u can always move to aus.
I also went to canada on a holiday in 2000...its also a beautiful country...so it depends what you want...

I´d always recommend Canada rather than an isolated country like NZ. NZ has much less people than CAN and it is far far away from world´s Richest nation - the US. CAN has almost all the opportunities as the US and most of the US farms have installations there. I went there in 2k2 and it was Fabulous.
Canada is a Nice country with rich rich culture and ample amount of Employment Chances.

to give you an example, IT workers in the US gets as much as double salary comparing to NZ. NZ´s main source of income is from their Dairy products.

Definitely Canada !!!! Go for Canada.

I brought in the Salary issue of CAN as one can easily roam from CAN to US and US to CAN without any visa for working purposes.

why does everyone focus on money and hail the usa as some ultimate goal of living standards? it´s quality of life that matters - usa is awful for that (i live here). i´ve been to both (lived in Vancouver, visited NZ), and they are very similar, i think you can have a better quality of life in NZ though (i prefer south island..but there you go). Plus, if you´re just waiting for the green card lottery to come through, there are direct overnight flights from auckland to san fran/la.

new zealand. but if you´ve got a job arranged then its ok.
Otherwise its pretty tough to get a job in NZ. I guess its the same in Canada but at least there´s a bigger job market there...

Canada VS New Zealand (in reply to: Canada Or New Zealand)
Hi there:

It really makes no difference between two countries. For me, I got two job-offers from both countries but finally chose NZ as my new country. Canadians are nice, so are Kiwis. However, when I went through Canadaian Customer at Vancouver Airport, the immigration officers treated me so badly that shaked me up quite a bite! Perhaps, I am a holder of Taiwanese passports, therefore, they suspected I had an intention to stay there. Truly speaking, give me a break, I would rather stay in a friendly country without encountering such negative attitude towards any visitor. Finally, I just made up my mind to stay in NZ. Importantly, the properties in Canada is even more pricey then those in New Zealand.

People often say that Americans are harsh to oriental people but, in my opinion, Yankees never give me a trouble, while passing through the customers, whereas Canada did that to me in the unexpected way.
