´Had my partner found a position, we would have applied to immigrate and only then after immigrating would I have looked for work.´

Those are your words, correct? what you´re saying is that you and your partner have no immigration application in the CIC system but were testing the employment waters prior to sending in your application. correct?????

And you are saying you are discriminated against because of this and crying to the newspapers and pasting garbage all over several websites????? Why were you sending out resumes at all if you were in Canada without a work permit or PR????

If you are in Canada as ´visitors´ no employer in his right mind is going to give you the time of day. They are not interested in holding a job until you are legal. That could be 18 months or more. They want someone the day they post the position.

I can´t believe I missed your obscure little detail before I wasted my energy.

Sharon:

Please stop posting assumptions about our situation. My partner had a 2 year open work permit, and couldn´t find work.

The posts made this clear.

I really have no desire to keep this conversation going with you, as clearly nothing productive is coming out of it....and I haven´t found anything enlightening on this site.

Our experience was very similar to those in the recent study released and the major news articles in the Globe and Mail, a major Canadian newspaper. We were not part of that study and were not interviewed for the Globe and Mail.

Thanks,

D

By the way, my partner has already found several projects to work on back home in the USA -- and has been contacted by several employers there regarding a few full time positions.

I really do think that the old expression about the USA is true: "the land of opportunity". Clearly, that is the only nation it is easy to find work in.

just quoting you... and looking for clarification.

obviously, you are not open to consider YOUR part in this failed adventure, so I am pleased to hear you have new opportunities that will suit you in the US. Not sure why you did not stay there to start with if things were so good- but that is a discussion for another day.

good luck.

why do you post this crap?

´I´ve had several people slam me left and right online on other immigration forums, for posting information about the difficulties of settling in Canada without prearranged guaranteed employment....but I suspect most of these people who dislike what I´m saying are probably associated with the immigration business.

I actually had someone [probably an immigration lawyer] delete something I posted on her immigration forum -- because she didn´t like people discussing anything negative about immigration! Pure censorship!

They don´t want people to know how hard it is to get a decent job, because then they wouldn´t come to Canada to begin with.
