Subject: A Couple of questions
  Hello!

Thanks for your time to post your opinions.

My wife is the principal aplicant of our SW federal application. We are currently in the US, but are foreign nationals. I need to visit my parents for a couple of months, during which we may receive the papers which require us to take medical exam. It´s also possible that we may be called for an interview. I have a couple of questions.

1. If we are called for an interview during my absence, can my wife (the principal aplicant) just explain to the officials that I am out of the country due to personal reasons? Will this be acceptable?

2. This is the more important question. If the medical papers arrive and I am out of the US, is it acceptable to Canadian immigration if I have the medical tests in my country (of course, with an immigration-approved doctor)and my wife will take the exam here in the US?

Thank you for your time. Good luck to all!

Anonymous,

It is strongly recommended by CIC that you attend since you are the spouse. I just received my interview letter and date yesterday and it says that specifically.

"Your spouse and all dependants 22 years of age and older who intend to immigrate to Canada should make every effort to accompany you to the interview, as a visa officer may wish to address questions to them concerning their eligibility or admissibility to Canada."

So to miss it is taking a chance, but this is only in the case of if you are called.

Secondly for your next question it is totally acceptable for you to go to a DMP where ever you are and take the exam and your wife do it in the US that isn´t a problem at all. If you read up some more you will see countless persons do it with no issues.

Good luck

You welcome Anonymous, it is what this is all about. I would suggest reading up on some other forums like immigration.ca which have a wealth of information.

I also remember someone in particular someone stating that their wife couldn´t make it to their interview and they were the pricipal applicant and the officer didn´t even ask them about it. So nothing is definite you can only try to be as prepared as possible.
