Subject: Export Car to Canada
  Hi Guys,

I completed landing last year in June. After landing I came back to USA. At that time I did not plan to take my car to Canada, so I did not put car in ´TO FOLLOW LIST´. But now I am thinking to take car to Canada. I am planning to move to Canada in Jan 2007. What can I do to take the car to Canada and how much it will cost convert it to Canada standards. I have 2001 Honda Accord.

Thanks in Advance.

If you´ve already landed and submitted all your Goods lists, I´m note sure you can now include your car. I´d expect not. You may have to pay duty.

Conversion to Canadian standards is made by an official inspection facility in Canada, who would let you know what if anything needs to be done and the cost. This is my understanding.

From another forum on this subject:

k132, most likely you have to pay 6%GST since you didn´t put your car as a good to follow in the firs place. But with a very little lucky they may let you in without having to pay taxes if you can proof it you bought your car before landing. Just tell them that you didn´t know the procedure before, the may or may not forgive you. Just give a try first, who knows?
They give you 45 days to register your car in Canada.

I have to pay 6% of cost of the car I purchased in 2001. Or it will be on the depreciated value.
