If the immigration official in Buffalo has any doubts regarding your application they ask for a personal interview. When an interview is required the file is transfered to the consulate (NY, LA, Detroit or Seattle) responsibe for the applicants area of residence.

You guys are luck as LA seems to be the fastest among the 4 consulates. You should expect to get an interview in 8 to 12 months depending on the workload.

I applied in Dec 2003
AOR - Jan 2004
IA - Aug 2004

I have been called for an interview and my file has been transfered from Buffalo to NYC (I explained in the earlier post why and where the file is transfered)

If you receive an interview waiver then you get a letter that gives you instructions to send additional documents (generally PCC, updated bank acount statements, background information since you applied for immigration etc) and go ahead with the medical. Applicants may be called for an interview even after getting an interview waiver initially if something pops up during background check and needs to be verified.
