Subject: Is there Fiancee Visa in Canada?
  Hello everyone,

I proposed to my Russian girlfriend when we met with each other in Prague, Czech Republic earlier this month. I live in Ontario, Canada and she is from Russia (province of Chita to be specific).

I am wondering about Canada´s process with fiancee immigration. I´ve only found out about K1 Fiancee Visa but it´s for the United States.

Do we have to be officially married and THEN apply for "family immigration" for her to come to Canada?

Does anyone have any experience with this? Are there specific forums to read through that you may direct me?

Thank you!

you have 2 options - 1 year of commonlaw or marriage to qualify for sponsorship.

the CIC website and family class category should get you most of information you need.

thank you (in reply to: Is there Fiancee Visa in Canada?)
Thanks for the quick replies.

I guess I´ll have to marry her in Russia, come back to Canada alone then sponsor her.

How long does this process take on average? I would like to apply some time in October of 2007 in hopes of her to come before May 2008.

income (in reply to: Is there Fiancee Visa in Canada?)
I have another question. What is the minimum income I should have before sponsoring her?

The family sponsorship application will take up to 2 years. The earliest could be a year if you´re lucky. I don´t think there is any minimum income requires if you guys don´t have kids. But if you´re having welfare, i don´t think you would be eligable then.

unfortunatley no (in reply to: Is there Fiancee Visa in Canada?)
hi there i am also sposoring my husband and we started may 2005. Still waiting. But i was approved on my income which is not massive. As mango sayd if no kids are involved it makes it alot easier. One thing though, If youd like her to see Canada get her over now on a tourist visa for a holiday. When we went to apply for a visitor visa they denied my husband, so its just been me going to Spain to see him. And wow expensive. It´s can be along road but i hope it goes quick for you. best of luck. Feel free to ask me anything else. Been there and done it all hehe. Oh and also i paid an ex Canadian immigration officer to help me with the paper work and it was probably the best 300 dollars i spent. He really helped

Thanks Mango and Jamie. My fiancee is from Russia and their tourism laws are pretty strict. She along with many others have mentioned there would be a 95% chance she would be turned down from a tourist visa. We now plan to officially marry in the near future so I can begin the sponsorship process. It will be a long 2 years but we can wait (we´re still young ;-) ). Good luck with your husband, Jamie.
