Subject: Tourist visa rejected, Plz help!!!
I´m an Indian. I have visited US 3 times, UK 3 times, Canada 1 time. I recently applied for tourist visa to Canada and was rejected. I have a valid US and UK visa (B1/B2). I applied for a second time and was rejected again.
I submitted bank statements, invite letter from my uncle, a letter from my dad stating I would return (I´m not working as I recently graduated), traveller checks, return tickets, etc. They said I would not leave Canada.
Can anyone help me. I want to reapply for a last time but I dont know what else they require of me as they refuse to discuss it further and they didn´t give an interview either.
Has anyone had a similar situation. What did u do?
Plz help!

you need a job to return to or property that is in your name- anything that will motivate you to return home.

If I had a job I wouldn´t have been able to come on a vacation in the first place. I graduated a month ago and I want to study further and I need to write entrance exams which take time. Even if I have to work, I have to write an exam for that.
Is it unnatural for people who have no jobs to go on a vacation? Most (90%) of my collegues are still not working. Don´t house wives go on a vacation? Not every Indian woman is a working woman. I´m a female by the way.
I need more info on what should be done next.

you asked what Canada is looking for.

You need to convince that CIC officer that you are going home at the end of your visit - period. Your reasons and logic matter nothing. The CIC officers job is tied to you returning to your home country as promised. If you do not return - it goes against their performance record. If it looks like you are a bad risk, they will not risk their job on you and simply say no!

So, the job is yours to figure out how you are going to meet those requirements.

why are you wanting to visit Canada? Look at your letter of invitation to insure that CIC can be satisfied about the purpose of your visit.

Hey Khan,

When people at the canadian embassies assess visa applications they always have similar questions as part of their Visa criteria, such as:

1/ Has the person got a job, a regular job in their country?
2/ Does he/she have a house, car or other belongings, property which would give an idea that this person will most probably come back to his/her own country after her/his visit,

3. Is the person a clean person ? No illegal activities etc?

and and the final question in the light of the answers they get from the questions above :

Does this applicant look like as if s/he is coming over to canada and not return ? If they are not staisfied with your answers for the questions above then their answer will be NOOOOOOOOO................

And you are right about most housewives have no jobs, but they have a HUSBAND who has a job, or property, ...I guess you have missed that point ....

Most developed countries have similar criteria when they are assessing Visa applications, and I guess you were a student when you visited the USA or UK, even being a student in your country is a good sign that a visa applicant most probably would go back to his country to continue his studies...

If the embassy has refused to give you a visa, there is no point in insisting, they will stick to their decision and make your application worse for future applications...

Advice: 1. Forget Canada now, start looking for a job, work for several months and then on your holiday you can visit canada...

2. If you want to continue your education, then search for a good uni in canada and apply from your own country as an International Student, ...If you do not want to spend a lot of money just to be in canada, then look for the cheapest Certificate or- Diploma course, and make all your arangements, then you can be in Canada... But honestly if I were an officer in the embassy and look at your file (as an international student) , I would say, mmmm this person seems to be doing everything to live in canada, and I would be suspicious.... Sorry...

Hope people have better suggestions...

Sharon / Reality bites

Tell me, visitors from the UK would be admitted to Canada anyways (on arrival at any Canadian airport) whether or not their/their spouses have jobs/property etc. etc.

How does a CIC officer distinguish the intentions of a visitor from India v/s one from the UK?

Thanks reality bites for your suggestions but I´m not dying to live and work in Canada. Sharon, I just wanted to visit it because I heard it´s beautiful. I decided to go now because I am free and haven´t gone on a vacation in a while so I wanted a good break.
Curious, you made a really good point, the same goes for US citizens. I had heard many people escape from police to Canada because they can enter the country no questions asked.
I thought my history of travel would be a good enough judge of my intentions to the visa offiers, considering that I have travelled to USA 3 times, this is my 4th time. UK 4 times, Canada 1 time, France 1 time and all times I have returned before my visa expired. I don´t have any criminal records, etc.
Another point I would like to mention that I really tried to find an answer to my question and discovered that canada has been rejecting alot of visas. Of husbands trying to invite their wives, of children trying to invite their parents, etc. I thought having someone in Canada to invite you would act as extra security because if the visitors extend their stay, the officials know exactly who to catch for that.
Anyway, I don´t seem to believe that it is as easy as they claim to get a tourist visa on their website (>80%). I agree they have full right but I just wish they were fair about it. Even today if I had a job, I would be too busy to go on any vacation for at least another year. It´s just sad.

unfortunately others have spoiled it for you. I do not fully understand why certain contries are exempt from holding visitors visas- I think it might fall back to extradition treaties, economic profiling... don´t really know. maybe others can explain better.

I understand your frustration. My guy had 3 failed visa attempts before he was successful and we are in the process of applying again. It is not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination. I wish it was otherwise.

It´s ok. Thanks for everyone´s help and suggestions.
I tried again and this time they gave it to my mom and rejected mine again and for the 1st time they mentioned that it´s because of my employment status. But even my mom´s visa is of no use as she wont go without me and I´m nearing the end of my trip.
Sometimes perisistence pays but nothing is really fair in this world. I´ve just given up trying anymore. Because they always come up with a new excuse to refuse.
But I noticed alot of change in the visa office today, they were very polite as if a complain had been launched against them. Many people got their visa with the exception of certain familys´ parents, few young girls like me, a mexican boy, etc.

Donno why youre pushing for a CAN visa just you heard it was a good country. You have good touring records, But how much $$$$$$ you had in your account when you applied? I guess that was a strong point for the denial. And I dont see any reason why they rejected you just for not a job that youre currenly employed in. But I know CAN consulates do have some common policies all around the world for the visa seekers, they always follow them. besides as youre a female, I am surprised that they rejected you!! What they saw actually was that you had no employment and why you´d come back from Canada.

As you might know CAN is in front of the US canons for issuing visas as some of these people infiltrate into the US and makes it´s security vulnerable. So being a good neighbor to the US, CAN dont want to jeopardise US´s request(commands) in this regard.

Dont worry, as Sharon and other experts said, Calm down and take some time. engage yourself in a job or get into a Masters program either in Ind or in CAN, have ample amount of $$$$$$$ in your own bank account- do prepare the source of this fund. Show the evidence of properties you own, submit TAX reports, evidentials, and an affirmation report in where all the information and docs description will be provided and state the reason there that you´ll come back from there for these these these reasons.

Hope this helps, Remember, Visa officers do change in course of time, Newcomers have their slightly own ways of judging visa applicants.
