  Richard,

I just wanted to say, I realized there was another thread, which is now closed, in which you tore apart some things I had said and then a person, reality bites came in and tore you apart, lol

I am really concerned that you immediately assume that anyone who criticizes anything Canadian is automatically an American that loves to watch Fox news.

This must be a joke.

Really.

I don´t watch Fox news. And I think that Reality guy wrote back and said something similar.

In my posts, my point was that in BOTH COUNTRIES there are serious healthcare problems. There have been many articles about Canadian healthcare issues....and one I saw was about a boy who couldn´t play hockey for almost two years, because he was left in a cast awaiting an operation.

Yes, yes yes yes you are correct, absolutely, that there is a healthcare crisis in the USA, but that effects only those who don´t have good coverage through any employer.

Does it suck? Absolutely! But some states, particularly in the northeast usa have taken steps to develop some of their own systems, and some are moving towards state based universal healthcare.

Even not being spring chickens, in our state, we were able to buy a relatively inexpensive policy to cover us for the period until we get coverage through an employer.

Now, again, as for Canada, it is wonderful that they have universal healthcare, but it needs a lot of work.

As for Ms. Sharon claiming conservatives don´t want to do away with universal healthcare, I would say that they aren´t going to publicly proclaim this on day one....but if they are in power in Canada, say 5 or 10 years, then it will happen.

Conservative philosophy [in any government] always dictates that the market should be the only entity that controls things....and the government shouldn´t give out social services.

Again, Richard, not all Americans watch Fox News. I personally hate it, because it is clearly NOT NOT NOT fair and balanced and is basically right wing propaganda for the most part.

And again, I support universal health care.... but I think what is happening in a few states now may ultimately prove to be the answer in the USA..... states inventing their own solutions.

Massachusetts and Vermont are both working on their own plans to provide coverage to all residents.

Waiting on the feds to do something in the USA is stupid, because southern states, which are less likely to go along with any sort of universal healthcare, are dominant in the federal system.

CIL, ok good points here. I wish you´d discuss more on this basis with these well-reasoned positions than your other posts just disparaging Canada and their health system. I also think that posting with the handle "canada immigration lies" does not create a feeling of someone wanting to discuss and consider all sides of the issue.

But again, you´ve made good observations on this post.

Lol I never intend to ´tear´ anybody ... I guess whenever somebody says something against Canada we should not take ´ the canadian side´ and start defending Canada...

For people who come here it would be better to read some facts about Canada, if the healthcare is great then, thank you that is nice to hear...

If there is anything that goes wrong or doesnt work in canada then people should be aware of those as well,..I would never say or have sympathy for people who say CIC is telling lies to people,... Lets say they are telling lies, listen! dont you get spam emails each day ? Some of them say you have won something , some say we need your bank account to send money etc. etc.. Do we buy them ? Do we jump on such spams ? No way, we use our brain and skills and research, and research, ... Even if CIC is misleading immigrants again it is up to us to buy it or not.....

If I tell you to come over to my country and I am offering you a job and you will be earning 20.000 CAd a month , would you come over ? No of course, you will research, confirm everything, bla bla bla....

So, all immigrants should research a lot and study or consider immigration to Canada... But sometimes I am sorry to say it somehow we act stupidly, we think that a paradise is waiting for us in Canada, .. Canada for sure much better than many countries in the world but that doesnt mean the employers will hurry to hire an immigrant...

In short I really wish it so much that landed immigrants come here and share their experience with us...and Those newspaper articles, honestly they do not mean anything to me, at times press has difficulty with finding something to write about... So immigration is always a spare tyre for them, and remember in media they say ´Good news is not good news´ so they always go for bad ones.... better we listen to real people here and true stories,

For about a year I have been following the posts here this is what I have seen here...many immigrants tell us that they have recieved their PR, or they have landed, but somehow they disappear after that .... Again I wish they shared their experience, I wish they show up...

Reality bites
(in reply to: Richard --)
It is often the non-native born who becomes the staunch defender of her new adopted country, right or wrong, so I agree with Reality bites that one has to look at even one´s adopted country with the critical mind turned on because there is good and bad in all people and all countries. E.G., my dry cleaner came to the USA from an eastern European country years ago and is a staunch defender of the administration´s war in Iraq policy, as though his adopted country can never be wrong because she took him in out of the cold. Only a stupidified, non-questioning population made more stupid by a nonsensical educational system could have voted for the current administration TWICE, though the first election was stolen.
So the point is, the poisonous snake can sneak into and render toxic any society and country without the citizen´s vigilance. Though I do think Canada has unequivocally great dark beer which slides down the throat like fine wine.

Well, CIL - Canadian Immigration Lies, because of the recent study that shows it´s impossible for the majority of educated immigrants in Canada....it´s a problem with getting employers to hire newcomers for anything other than janitor, etc.

I spent a long time in Canada and I have extensive experience in BC in particular.

Canada is a good place for a vacation....but to live there it is really rough.

Again, I applaud Canada for even having universal healthcare...and I hope the USA gets it too. Earlier posts were just explaining the variations in the USA system and how it´s not horrible for all people.

But clearly, anyone who can´t afford to buy their own policy -- or whom doesn´t have an employer to buy one....yes, biggie problemo.

Northern states seem [generally speaking] to have better systems set up on a state by state basis for those who can´t afford, etc.... and in the USA it is probably better for universal healthcare to happen state by state and not at all involve the federal government, because politically it won´t happen anytime soon.

Having used the Canadian system in BC for a while, I can tell you that it is hard to see a specialist. I had to see one a couple of times for some minor issues, and it took way longer than in the USA.

There will be plenty of Canadians who will probably respond to this and say "it ain´t so" but that´s because in Canada it depends where you are, how many specialists are in your area, etc.

Not trying to condemn Canada here....just wish the immigration system reflected the realities of the employer mindset, so that immigrants wouldn´t get screwed.

As for moving to Canada for universal healthcare, I couldn´t imagine it...not for a moment. There have to be like 2 or 3 other more important reasons for anyone to go to Canada that are beyond healthcare. But who knows, maybe some do...I just can´t believe it.

As for Fox News Channel, i.e. the one with O´Reilly....they frequently get things wrong, and misrepresent things...and many times they don´t provide enough of the other [i.e. moderate or liberal side] although they pretend to.

They were really instrumental in drumming up misinformation for the Iraq war....which a lot of people believed, although I should admit most of the other TV news didn´t do much better.

Sad to say.
