The E-mail says:
We have requested background information from other government
offices(s). Unfortunately, we cannot respond to requests for the status
of your application before this information is received.

Don´t panic its there way to say stop bothering them. How many other countries have you been in that they have to contact?

They give CSIS far longer then they need to do the checks so they PA the file for notmally three months.

This is not unusual.

WEE KNEE HOW

They check foss to see if anyone has written about you and they check CSIS for everyone. Foss takes two seconds but you have to be careful about your dates. Did you overstay your student status?

Have some CDN do a privacy request for your foss notes only! Do not ask for the whole file it will take them for ever but they are suppose to respond within thirty days. Find the form in the about the department section main page.

Once you get the foss notes and they appear okay go after CSIS to see if they have even asked for your security check. All checks are background checks.

Hi Vivi,

I am in the same situation as you. I always get the this reply whenever I send them an inquiry. My background check has been going on for more that 18 months now. I already attended the security interview four months back and the background check is still on.

It is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo longe process. I am 2004 applicant through Buffalo.

It does not matter whether you have a clean record in Canada or not. This background check involves deep investigation into your life back home. As far as I am concern, 10% of PR applicants undergo background check and you are one lucky applicant.

Everybody goes through background checks regardless. A very small number are actually interviewed by CSIS and normally because they served in their countries military. Some times when they need to contact a particular officer re his/her comments about you your In Canada background checks on FOSS can take considerable time because of the restructering of what they now call CBSA. They have to find where that officer is now.

You will need a Canadian Citizen to fax CSIS and you need to sign a IMM 5475 or IMM 5476 Representative form.
