Subject: Landing in Canada, Fly or Drive? PR card issues!
Got my and wife´s Canadian immigrant visa. Got until November 28th to land. Need some suggestions:

1) If I land and provide Canadian address for PR card, can I exit Canada without card and later enter to collect my card? Will I need to apply for travel document to enter again or can I simply enter with copy of COPR? Any pros and cons in driving as opposed to flying?

2) Is it true once I get my PR status, I have to enter Canada every 6 months?

3) If I do not make my complete move to Canada (working in US), how long before this may become an issue in maintaining my PR status in Canada?

Will appreciate all of your feedback.

I think you can always get back into Canada with your USA passport, if you have one. I don´t know about the six months, but I believe you need to be in Canada at least 2 out of 5 years to maintain PR status. Once you become a citizen, residing in Canada 3 out of total of last 4 years, you can reside outside Canada as long as you want. This is spelled out if CIC website, e.g., maintaining PR status and gaining citizenship.

I am on work visa in USA. Will apply for visa stamp from US embassy once I land in Canada.

I was told that if travelling by road in personal vehicle only passport and CPR form is sufficient to enter. But travel doc is necessary if travelling by commercial transport.

Any thoghts on that?
