Subject: Backround check
I am thinking about immigrating to Canada as a skilled worker, i have been doing a lot of research on the matter, and i am confused about a few things. One of them is why does immigration canada performs backround checks from an american location (Buffalo)? i understand why the Canadian goverment would want to check applicants backgrounds from their homecountries and in Canada, but what does the U.S. and the FBI has to do with this? second, are skilled workers supposed to get jobs or would it be o.k. to start a business in less than 2 years after arriving in Canada?

You need to do a lot more research if your considering doing this application by yourself.

Background Checks are a three prong issue.
1. Proof of no convictions from all countries that you have lived in for more then six months since the age of 18.
2. Security Check to see if your not wanted in some other country which is done by our spy agency (KGB, CIA) CSIS.
3. Foss checks to see if you have ever been written up for some violation under our Immigration Act.

Most persons on this message board appear to be Americans which would be the reason the FBI is providing proof of no convictions. Or they are in Canada legally & have submitted their application in Buffalo because of Regulation 11 allows them to because of the one year residency provision of Regulation 11. That is the reason that the Canadian Consulate is checking their background checks. aka Buffalo

If you take advice please be careful of whom you take it from.
