Subject: Proficiency Letter
Previous post mentioned that the letter needs to be hand-written. Is this true? I am concerned because I had sent in typed letter but it was signed. Is this suffcient? Should I supplement before the IA?

I really doubt that it has to be handwritten. It just doesn´t make any sense.

I am also wondering why some are required to submit handwritten proofs. Because in my case, I submitted mine in typewritten form and it was accepted. Maybe it all depends on the visa post where the application has been forwarded.

Also what´s the logic there if it has to be handwritten? Still CIC can´t detect if the person who wrote it is really the genuine author of the letter?

I am guessing here... do you think the are saying written so an applicant does not send an audio tape or video tape of them speaking english????

I´ve read and re-read the instructions. It just says a WRITTEN (not handwritten) submission. Has anyone actually gotten rejected because their letter was typed?

^That´s the thing I have been myself complaining about. It does not say anywhere that the English Proficiency letter should be hand-written ("written" yes but not "hand-written").

However I have come across quite a few posts in this and other forums where people have said that their application was returned because they sent a typed letter.

For example , read the 3rd post in the following thread :

I think it is best to know from these applicants (required to submit handwritten) what visa post they applied. In my case, I am from Micronesia and applied in Manila where they accept typewritten proofs.

Thank you all for your replies. I sent in my app to Buffalo in April and got my AOR in mid May. So hopefully they will not reject it.

Hi All!
Those applicants, who have not taken an "approved language proficiency test", must submitt a written statement to provide evidence of proficiency in language. CIC officers
do not make a decision based on the quality of your written statements. They are looking for convincing evidence of your proficiency in language provided by your statement. Therefore, the written statement without convincing evidence will be rejected. Otherwise, you will have to take the test.
In my case, I just outlined my evidence in separate sheet,
attached to Schedule 3, question 6. I just used less than
10 sentences (typed), provided strong evidence along with
copy of backups ( College degrees, trascripts, xxx many years of living and working in the USA, copy of CPA certificate,etc.).

Good luck!
