Subject: Too many visas
I have the most complicated situation.
I am american, my partner is kiwi. At the end of 2006, I have to return to the States to finish one term at my home university. At the end of april, my kiwi shows up. At the moment of touchdown in LA, he has 90 days in the states. There is no way to keep him there except getting married, and we can´t do that yet. So our plan is to go to Canada because he can do the NZWHP. The question is, how the hell do I get into Canada? I´ll want to work, I wouldn´t mind a work permit, but that involves finding a job before I move to Canada, doesn´t it?
I´m very stuck :(

If you want a job in Canada, first you need a job offer, then HRDC approval, and then go to the any of the consulates they have in the US. My experience can tell you that they won´t hire you if you don´t have a work permit, and you can´t get one while in Canada. It takes time to get a job offer, it´s kind of complicated. And if you´re taking your partner with you, you have to prove that you have lived together for at least one year.

Not totally correct but again with lack of detail the best answer can not be had.

Excuse my lack of knowledge but what is a NZWHP?

Being an American you have a better chance of being employed because your English is almost understandable (joke) and you have north american type work experience. Depending on what you actually do it could be possible to obtain a WP without HRSDC approval.

You have made a commitment to your partner and therefore he is a conjugal member of your family and would be allowed into Canada if you are approved for a WP.

As long as your partner is a consenting adult no one up here or at a US visa post will dare challenge your relationship as long as it appears legit.

If you are approved consider saying the four most scariest words, "Will You Marry Me"?

There is a gay employment agency based in Toronto but I don´t know their web site, google and good luck.

NZWHP is New Zealand Work holiday program. He is a kiwi and I am an American lass :)

More than likely, I would be doing religious work, and I know that I don´t need HRSDC for that. So the big question is how do I line up a job in Canada when I am all the way down in Tennessee?

Roy: My partner is American, he was born in the US, and he´s got lot of work experience in the US. He´s been looking for a job in Canada for about 5 months, he´s sent hundreds of resumes, he´s been in Canada trying to get the job offer there, we even hired some company that deals with work permits and has some offers, and it´s been really hard. I used to think that it was going to be really easy for him to get a job because he´s american.

We´re trying that because thanks to the PR application we´ve been apart for more than 2 years, and our process is stuck while we wait for an interview. In order for me to go with him and be included in the work permit application, it says that we have to be currently living together, but I can´t go to the US, and he can´t quit to move back down here because his experiences is what qualifies him for the PR.

So that´s the experience I was talking about. But since you are an Immigration Consultant, I bet you know lots more about that than I do!
