Subject: CSIS Interview in Canada
I´ve been in Canada since 2002 with Study permit and applied for immigration on Mar 2005. I did my medical on May 2006 and today, I recieved a letter from CIC, asking for an interview in CSIS office in Vancouver (where I live). My record in canada is completely clean. Does anybody know what this interview about? what do they ask? how long does it take? and does is deccelerate the processing procedure?

Thanks for your help! I am a bit confused, as i haven´t seen they arrange such an interview for any of my friends!

Cheers Dimah

Please understand CSIS is concerned because of something in your application. What would it be. would take hours to ascertain. Have you ever served in the military? Do you belong to any student groups in Canada like that Tamil student group who are accussed of buying stuff in the states?

Understand the Americans Right Wing can´t find Osamin in the Saudia Arabian desert or anyhwere else so many other countries are accused of stuff and sometimes people make money entrapping others.

I suggest you have a knowledgable person put you through an open question interview and that you record same. This is to make sure that you always THINK before you answer and you will be okay.

A KAZAKSTANIAN (sp) client from Almaty of mine who applied in Detroit many years ago was interviewed and asked what he knew about Russian Mafia in Moscow? Go look at a map and see how far the two are apart from each other. An example would be someone who lived in Huston TX being asked about Mafia in the Yukon.

Not saying its that rediculous but I bet your a Muslim or worse from a country that has some recent problems. So sorry that they are assuming your guilty till proven innocent by association.

If you do not understand the question ALWAYS ask a question back, (do you mean ------- or is that ----) and do not worry too much its something that has to be done today in this world.

Thank you roy for your information
I haven´t served in military. however, I am from Iran! maybe that´s why I am asked for an interview! I have not travelled to the States either.
Do you think I should consult to a lawyer before going to the interview ?
Also they arranged a translator for me! I am comfortable with english, but again do you think it´s a good idea if I have my interview in my native language, or it´s better to have it in English?

Thanks again

No it has nothing to do with your country it has to do with profiles of people.

DO NOT HIRE A LAWYER!!!!

Most of them are *&^% when it comes to this type of case and will be afraid that you will tarnish their reputation.

WHEN YOU (LAWYER UP) CSIS WILL THINK YOUR GUILTY!

It´s like a catch 22 scenario, your wrong if you do and wrong if you don´t. Do you have any relatives that are into politics or a similar name as an Iranian politician?

Take the translator but only use him/her if your not sure of the question. If you use the translator and your English is good sometimes you will answer before the translator is finished and make a mistake.

If there is some dangerous type question in your mind you can say to the interpreter can you interpret what he asked. That gives you a minute or so more to think of the best response.

Wish you luck.

Thanks again Roy

No! Neither me nor any of my relatives have been in any political party or involved in political issues! That´s quite obsurd why they asked for an interview! The only think that I can think about is my full-name, which is a bit Arabic! but it shouldn´t be any problem! I have absolutely no idea of the reason made them to arrange this interview. It is in October and I will let you know what it would be all about (unless they asked me not to).

I also applied for post graduation work permit, does this case affect that? is there a chance that they ask me to leave the country after interview?! oh gosh! I don´t see any good thing comes out of this situation!

I´m in a similar situation to you. Just wanted to know how your interview and what did they ask you ? I came to canada on a study permit and then applied for permanent residence. Received a letter couple of days requesting csis interview. I have clean record so this has me worried.

Thanks

Relax Max,

People want to know you better that´s all. Just to make sure there are no stones left unturned. The Sollicitor General´s office just wants to know if you´re a good guy.

If you never had any weird affiliation, never published or distributed anything "nasty" you´ll be just fine.
You´ll soon find CSIS people to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay smarter and friendlier than the dumb, rude uneducated CIC crowd.

Chances are you´ll be talking to a Joe or a Jane who knows your country much better than the ususal "CIC suspects" and,... Roy the question about the Russian Mafia in Kazakhstan...not exactly as dumb as one might think.
