Last night I was watching the Bill O´reilly on FOXNEWS. There was someone from Ottawa talking about how easy is for terrorists to be accepted in Canada. O´reilly, who is a big Bush supporter, implied that Canada (especially Montreal) is harboring terrorists who might then attack the US. There was only one story mentioned that made me wonder:
They claim that in Canada it is not possible to watch FOXNEWS, but is possible to watch the AlJazeera network. Is this really true?
However, as a future (hopefully, crossing my fingers) permanent resident of Canada, I would like this unproffesional TV clown to take RCMP more seriously. We all know here that they really perform background checks on anybody applying for the Canadian PR.
I´d like to see Sharon´s comments about this.

It is easy for the US to blame Canada for things (we are used to it). You need a satellite for both stations that you discuss. Al Jazeera had some problems because some of their reports would be illegal under Canada´s anti hate legislation. Fox... I think it is because we have this organization called the CRTC that thinks we need to have a certain percentage of Canadian content on our TV´s. (so we are not badly influenced) Its a long and boring story that most Canadians do not understand or care about. We just go and get our satellite.
As for terrorists... when you are afraid, you ask and expect unreasonable things of your neighbours. Yes, we likely have some terrorists in our midst. We prosecute 2 at the moment who blew up an Air India flight almost 10 years ago. They have lived in Canada all this time. We have a family that trained in Afghanistan with Bin Laden that are now Canadian citizens. Not sure how they got here - but the did. They can´t get a passport, but they still live here. However, it is interesting to recall that all the 9/11 terrorists were living in the US at the time of the attacks.
I have been know to yell at the TV.

my advice is not better than anyone elses. I may have an advantage on some occassions only because I am Canadian and understand a little bit how our government works. There is nothing special about what I know. There are many knowledgable and helpful people on this forum.
