Subject: Sponsorship approval
I´ve posted a similar question before, but I hardly got one answer, so I´m hoping that somebody will give me a more acurate answer this time. I would like to know if low income (or hardly any income), credit card debt, or student loan debt can influence the decision to be approved as a sponsor in family class, sponsoring just a spouse?

Thank you kindly for your answers

I think they only look at income. there should be a schedule in the sponsorship application.

Hi,

As far as I´ve been led to believe, if you are simply sponsoring a spouse there is no minimum income requirement that needs to be met. And as far as I know they do not check into personal debt such as credit cards and/or student loans.

Atleast that is what I was told when I contacted the CIC Call Centre and asked them if there was an minimum income my husband would have to meet in order to sponsor me. My husband is a Canadian citizen and I´m an American citizen - we began the immigration process in July.

The only time cases in which a minimum income requirement must be met is if:

1) You live in Quebec and are planning to have your spouse move there with you. Quebec´s immigration process is different from the other provinces, in the fact that they actually pick who they allow to immigrate there.

2) If your spouse has dependent children who have dependent children of their own.

I hope that this information helps.

Can I sponsor my Daughter? but when I was leaving I didn´t mention on the application I have a daughter. Do it take long to process the application. her mom died lately she has no one just me.

if you did not declare that you had a child in your original application the answer is no. If you try to convince them otherwise you run the risk of being stripped of your PR for lying in your documents.
