Subject: Landing without Exiting
I am in Canada on Work Permit. I got my Immigration Visa recently. I need to exit and reenter to obtain a Landing Certificate and Landed Status. I do NOT have a USA visa. Do I need a USA visa to take a U-turn into Canada at the Niagara Falls/Buffalo port of entry?

Any advice

It depends if your country of citizenship is part of the US visa waver program. You can check the US embassy web site. Otherwise, you need a visa.

you dont have to enter the states ive seen this issues come up before on www.immigration.ca just go out of canada, go to the us border guards they will refuse entry and then go back to canada for landing as PR just make sure you bring all docs

Big Burp is right its called a Buffalo Shuffle or a direct back I would use the railway bridge crossing over the rapids they are less busy and known so they will not get as angry.

let me put my two cents as I just did it.

we went to canandian immigration office in the Niagra falls and the officer asked us to go to the US side. we walked to the us side via a pedestrian bridge after paying 25 cent toll. we went to the us side and told the lady officer that we did not want to enter the US. she took our pp and did something(god knows what, she was very rude and seemed pissed off). then gave back a paper along with our pp. The paper stated that we were refused entry to the US based on some clause.blah blah blah

With that paper we officially landed and became a Canadian PR.

Later when we went to US consulate in toronto for US visa application, the lady asked us why we have checked the box that asked if we were ever refused entry to the us.When I explained what had happened at the US canada boarder, she said it was not considered refusal to entry as we did not intend to enter the US. Long story short we got tourist US visa for ten years. I am adding this story here because some one in this forum previously suggested that going to US boarder without US visa would result into "refusal to enter to US" status. It was further suggested that that would red flag you any time you would apply for the US visa .and even those who do not need to apply US visa in advance(like europeans), if refused entry once, need to apply the US visa in advance. So apparently that is NOT CORRECT. Just some extra info

If you are on work permit you can land In Canada, just go to the nearest CIC office and get the whole thing done there. Good luck.

Is this really true? please I need confirmation and source where I can officially verify. I heard it before but no official rule anywhere including the letter from CIC when one gets stamps.

I was in work permit and I also heard that you could land without exiting. I called the toronto office and they said I had to exit Canada to land to officially become a PR. I think people who are sponsored in side canada are eligible to land without exiting.
