Subject: Goods to Follow List question
Does anyone know how detailed the goods to follow list has to be? I´ve copied the list from the CIC site, but I´m not sure how to proceed. Do we list, for example: "living room furniture, estimated value___" or "burgundy couch, est value ____; coffee table, est value___, burgundy chair and ottoman, est value___"?

We are getting our immgration photos today and will send our passports on Tuesday, so we´re planning to land in mid to late October, if we can get this list together by then. As soon as we have our SINs, my dh can start looking for jobs, and we´ll move whenever and wherever he gets an offer. So we´re pretty anxious to get started on this mysterious list, and although we want to get it as detailed as is necessary, we don´t want it to be burdonsome either.

Thanks for any help!

just put everything you can think of....computer, furniture, all kitched items, sewing machine.....i mean anything you use.....make a list that has the description of the item and an approximate canadian dollars value of that item......make sure you get that document signed from customs when you land....customs normally put a stamp....you can bring the items in that list in the future without paying any duty. hope this helps.

I listed particular furniture we have, especially as we have antiques. I didn´t list particular clothing, shoes, but listed specific items like appliances, electronics but not specific clothing or shoes, etc. I listed approximate boxes of books; you can always bring less. I listed certain specific items like a new quilt. Except for a couple of expensive paintings, I put paintings as a group with a value, and such items as ceramic collectible dolls as a group of ten, etc. Lots of similar items such as the latter, brass figurines, etc, can be grouped together with a value. I think they´re most concerned with really expensive stuff like electronics and certain appliances, which you should have the serial number listed. Good Luck

Great, thank you Bob and itsgonabeme. That definitely helps a lot. I started making a list today of our big items (furniture, computer, etc), going room by room, and realized that all the other stuff could probably just be grouped together, like you said. It definitely helps my nerves to hear it from someone else! :) Thanks to you both!
