Subject: Landing, leaving, returning...
Whenever we *do* get our visas (we´re stuck in the Detroit quagmire), we will be landing and then returning to the US for a bit (wrapping up work obligations, etc.). I fully understand the two years out of five requirement, etc. Here´s my question - if we land and plan to return to the US for, say, 18 months before moving permanently, is there any form, visa, etc. in addition to the PR card that we need in order to be out of Canada for that length of time? Any assistance or direction to the right CIC page would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No form that I´m aware of. They´re really too busy to manage such forms for this purpose. Just assume that Canadian immigration at the border will check and track such absences. Just be mindful and stay within the rule of absence of no more than 3 years total out of every 5.

Thanks! For some reason I thought I´d heard that if you left for more than six months you had to get some sort of "permission." Thanks, again!

Same.
I have the same situation.
Just be sure that when you officially land that you have a CANADIAN address readily availbable to give the authorities to where they may send your new PR card.

Once you have that, just be sure that from the point of landing for the next five years, you live in Canada for two, that way you can renew your PR status, then possibly citizenship?
