Hi Brian,

Thanks for your interest in my situation. We did find a house in Canada at a smaller city where prices are not nearly as expensive (one third) as Toronto would be for similar house. Although Toronto was our first choice, we found that Chicago (where we come from) was a little too similar in density. We like the cleaner air, water, pristine wilderness and scenery, and less intense life of this locality. The only problem is the job market (in my field - IT), which Toronto had a huge advantage over.

Fortunately, there was no housing bubble to burst in the American midwest, where prices rose more slowly than on the coasts. So here in the Chicago suburbs, although there is a slowdown, prices have held steady for the most part, and I expect to sell by spring.

Of note, I have not been disappointed in my decision to leave the US for Canada. I find Canadians very friendly, and more polite. Life seems more at ease and equal than the hectic competitive pace of big city Chicago, both in who has the most stuff in the suburbs and career climbing over each other at work in the Loop.

For me health coverage was important, and we always felt that it was problem hanging over our heads if I lost my job. Everyone I met is very pleases with OHIP, the Ontario universal medical system. So we´ll see how things progress but am very impressed so far.

Could you also let us know how´s your situation and progress? I´d like to hear. I don´t know if you remember Bob on this board, but he´s also in same timeline and is in process of landing as well. I think he´s headed to BC for his destination.

Regards, Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I remeber Bob and he too is in the same situation.

As far as I am concerned, I have not picked up an exact date to move to Canada yet, I have until Feb 07 to land as per my Visa. I was thinking of moving earlier but got bit lazy about the thought of searhing for new job, also I did not want to start the search too early in advance. I will be doing that in Nov this year. I am also in IT from Boston area, I do not have house, I rent. I looked at the Toronto suburbs and they are very reasonably priced. I plan to buy a house within three months of moving to Canada, depending upon where I get the job.

I will keep you posted, in the meantime if it is ok you can provide me your email and we can stay in touch.

Take care,
Brian

Thanks Brian for your status and information - very similar to my situation. Am surprised you found Toronto housing reasonable - maybe I didn´t investigate all that thoroughly. And yes, also took me some time to get the motivation to do a complete "Goods to Follow" list and actually land.

Yes, let´s keep in contact - please email me at Richard8800@juno.com. I have another email address I´ll then give you.

Richard
