Subject: Visiting Time Length
I was wondering if any one could help me, I spent eleven months in Canada as a student on exchange and returned hom about a two months ago, I now have a girlfriend out there and many friends so I have decided to take a year out and go back and visit, I am hoping to leave on October 17th and stay until late August early September.

I have looked all over the government websites to see if there is a maximum amount of time I can stay in Canada as a visitor but I cannot find anything especially as I am from the UK and I only need a VISA Waiver Form. Is it the case that I state how long I wish to stay and they will agree or disagree when I arrive at the airport?

A few questions is there anything I should bring with me to help my case to stay, I will be returning to continue my studies in the UK next academic year. I have an expired Canadian Study Permit. Should I mention that I am returning because of my girlfriend who is Canadian? If there is a limit on how long I can stay can it be exptended later, I will be living on the Windsor/Detroit border, last year I got four VISA Waiver Forms to go to the USA and they always gave me a new one when it expired. I will have Travel/Health Insurance for the whole trip.

I know thats a lot of jumbled information, I just want to know how long I can stay as a visitor in Canada.

Thank you for your time.

Usually as a visitor you may stay in Canada for 6 months.

There are couple things here...
You should contact the Canadian Embassy and ask them if you are need to undergo medicals before you leave your home country.

Bring enough money to proof that you can support your self for that period of time.
If you can´t proof that after a year you are going to leave Canada or that you have no $$$ to support your self, more likely you will be refuse of entry.

Your entry into Canada is a discretion of the Immigration Officer at the port of entry.
