Subject: Job and landing info!!

hi everyone,

i have applied for canadian Immigartion for me and my wife.

I was wondering how much money does a couple need per month to start of.By that i mean to have a decent living in canada, i.e a one bedroom house on rent,a car and the basic monthly essentials of travelling ,food and drink.

I am a chef by profession and my wife too works in Hotels Sales and Marketing what can we both expect to earn?

i hope the question is not too vague

warm regards and all the best to all

I think you might want to start by researching specific areas and cities you might be interested in settling in, for both job information and cost of living information. Your question is extremely vague--Canada is an enormous and diverse country, and cost of living varies greatly. The internet is an amazing tool; perhaps begin by looking up newspapers from cities that interest you, as well as specific city websites. You can do searches on Google, for example: "Toronto housing costs" or "Southern Ontario towns" or "Calgary jobs". You will find that a $40,000 annual salary will provide you with a decent lifestyle in some areas, and in others, you might require 3 times as much. You will certainly benefit by doing your homework first.

Good luck.

hi
thanks for the reply. i do realise it was a vague question. just wanted some ballpark figures. but your right it will be better to do a more intensive research depending on the province, which again is something difficult to decide based on Internet cause i only lived in toronto once for about 2 months.
anyway thankyou for taking the time to post a reply

all the best to you too

Shel, As told bedore, living cost varies from places to place. But, at any place, you have to have at least 40K income to support both. In Toronto, 1 bed Apt. Min´m rent (without car) 800$/month. Food may be 300-400 $ (depending on you). Add other expenses. In Canada maintaining a car is nothing different than a children (very high insurance+parking cost in apt+high gas price). As a beginer, your insurance would be at least 300$/mo. +50-60$ rent for apt. parking. Until you don´t find a job, don´t think about it, you can manage your daily commute bu bus. if you live in Quebec, living cost may be a little lower.

BUT, big question is job. Be prepare yourself to go for a any type of local course (go with warranted intern courses). That may give a you a little hope in finding a job, competition there is simply unthinkable. Many guys are simply on social assistance with local degrees. before coming, start applying for jobs, don´t forget to use a local phone No. & address (any freind/relatives). That may give you an idea of where you are heading. Whether you are in Canada or out Canada really wouldn´t matter, even from Canada you will have to do the same thing, apply through internet.

hi shah,

thanks for that answer . it really helps me to get a ballpark figure as to what im looking at in terms of expenses. somehow the whole situation seems a little worrying. I keep getting mixed feedback. somesay there are plenty of jobs for chefs while many say that its really hard finding a job, especially in ones own profession.
i still have plenty of time to figure things out and i guess save up for any contingencies.

thanks once again

I actually didn´t want to scare you, but it is extremely difficult in Canada to get into any professional job, regardless of qualifications. Any overseas credential or experience they just consider as garbage. Above all, nepotism plays the greatest role. If you don´t know anybody and just apply by yourself, then it is nothing but playing lottery. I would strongly recommend you to do the job search as I told before taking any final decision.

Shel,in this site you won´t be able to get the true story. This site is operated by a certain quarter. It shows one side. BUT, more realistic is the other side. Visit www.CanadaImmigrants.com, www.dailybread.ca, and another very interesting site whose name is ban here. Type "Truth about Immigration to Canada" in google search and visit the 1st hit.

Good Luck.
